ABOUT ME

Adrian Robak was born in Bytom in 1979. His composition study was completed under Professor Alexander Lasoń's class at the Katowice Academy of Music, (2008, honours degree). Alongside composition he also studied the theory of music. During his studies the Minister of Culture and National Heritage twice awarded him a scholarship grant for distinguished results in studies. In 2015 he received PhD of musical arts under Professor Eugene Knapik. He composes different kinds of music; namely orchestral, chamber, choral, electronic as well as movie soundtracks. He has scored the soundtrack for the seven following films – Day of My Life, Marian Kolodziej’s Blocks of Memory, Wolny’s Mission, Doctor Faustus, Toń, Rodzeństwo and Ostatni dzień lata.

 

His most important symphonic composition include “Silesia 1921”, “This country is no for heroes” and “Gardens for symphonic orchestra”. His compositions have been performed at various festivals in Poland (e.g. ‘Mikolow Days of Music’ in Mikolow; ‘Premieres Festival’ by the National Radio Symphony Orchestra) and abroad (e.g. ‘Incontro Internazionale Polifonico Citta di Fano’ in Italy).

His music was recorded and published on CD's: "Pastelux" and "Made in Poland". 

In the years 2007-2009 he performed the function of an accompanist, singer and, finally, assistant director of the Katowice ‘Camerata Silesia’ Singers Ensemble. 

 

 He has been involved and co-worked with eminent musicians and ensembles in Poland, e.g. the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and in Europe, the Wiener Symphoniker.

He has performed in the most prestigious concert halls in Poland, e.g. Warsaw Philharmonic and equally abroad at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Lincoln Centre – New York Philharmonic in the U.S.A., Bregnzer Festspiele in Austria and Canterbury Cathedral in Great Britain.

 In 2011, he was awarded the minister of Culture and National Heritage in the Field of Music and Dance Scholarship. In 2014-2019, he was elected to composer’s contract of Music and Dance Institute.

He is an author of the board entitled “The Silesian School of Composers of the 20th and 21st centuries”. This board is hung on the wall of The Karol Szymanski State School of Music in Katowice.

 

Furthermore, he has compiled a collection of arrangements and transcriptions.  His arrangements were performed at the Grand Theatre Poznan. Director David Lynch was in the audience when was the exhibition and happening “Hotel Landszaft”.

He is an organiser of concerts and other cultural activities. Finally, He is a member of the Polish Composers’ Association  (from 2013 to 2018 in the Silesian Board of Association) and the Polish Society of Authors and Composers (ZAiKS). He was teacher in National Music School in Gliwice (2015-2018).

He has contract works in Music Academy in Katowice (Introduction to New Music, earlier: Ear Training, Aesthetic of Music).

He works in Krzysztof Kieślowski Faculty of Radio and Television University of Silesia in Katowice and Upper Secondary School no. 4 in Ruda Śląska.
